Halifax Ladies IV 2 – 0 Bradford University I
Scorers : Wood, Robertshaw
The ladies 4ths had to work very hard to beat a young and very fit university side.
A combination of great teamwork, excellent work rates and a desire to be first to the ball proved to be the deciding factor. Bradford University pressed from the off but Halifax stuck to the task with the whole defensive line of Pennyward, Rosier, Crabtree and Greenwood demonstrated excellent discipline with very tight marking.
The back four worked well with the midfield of Wright, Clarkson and Chadwick to pick up every loose ball and feed the forward line. Wingers Hirst and Wood both showed tremendous determination and a great deal of speed which paid off well when Harriet Wood sped down the wing, drove into the D took a clean shot at goal and followed in to pounce on a rebound off the keepers pads to slot the ball home to take the home side into a deserved lead.
The visitors pushed back and goalkeeper Claire Donson pulled off several fine saves to keep Halifax in the lead.
The second half proved to be equally as ferocious and a long ball out from midfield gave Claire Robertshaw a clear run into the D and a superb strike gave the keeper no chance. The visitors pushed again but the Halifax side retained control and kept them out.
