Still unbeaten, Ladies 4ths earn a draw against Ben Rhydding 5ths, battling back to 3-3

Halifax 4ths 3 v Ben Rhydding 5ths 3.

Scorers : Chadwick-Marshall, Robertshaw
Man of Match : Laura Neimantas

After a friendly resulting in a draw, Halifax went into this match determined for a victory. Ben Rhydding were only ten strong whilst Halifax had the maximum number of subs.

The first quarter was scrappy, however, with neither team really dominating play. Halifax finally managed to break through with right midfielder Helen Chadwick-Marshall scoring for Halifax. It wasn’t long, however, before Ben Rhydding had a long shot from the top of the D into the Halifax goal – some Halifax players thought it hit the side netting, but the goal was allowed.

With substitutes coming on for Halifax, positions were changing to support this and Ben Rhydding took advantage and with the first goal being allowed, Halifax were on the back foot – Ben Rhydding went on to score another two goals in quick succession, one dribbling past the defenders and goalie, Sacha Pennyward – making the half time score 3-1 to Ben Rhydding.

Starting the second half, Halifax really got on top of the game – playing wide and spreading the Ben Rhydding ten across the pitch. Some great defending by sweeper, Rachel Rosier and Amber Pennyward at Right Back.

Another great game for Molly Midgley who never lets the side down with the amount of effort she puts in as Centre Midfield resulted in the second goal for Halifax. Some great runs on the right wing from Harriet Wood who had a great game dribbling past the defenders and getting some great passes into the D.

Sacha Pennyward, Halifax goalie, also had a much better second half saving a fantastistic shot at goal which would have got past most goalies, clearing wide with a great kick to Laura Neimantas who took the ball right up the field from her defence position – and crossed into the D where Claire Robertshaw scored the third goal for Halifax with just minutes to the whistle.

A very worth Man of the Match went to Laura Neimantas who played in several positions throughout the match and demonstrated again her skill on the ball, calm and mature approach to the game despite a young age, excellent defending and also some great breaks into the Ben Rhydding half.
