Halifax 4ths 1 v 0 Leeds
Scorer – Anj Wright
Man of the Match – Laura Neimantas
A very close match from the first to the final whistle, although Halifax was mostly successful in keeping the play in the Leeds half.
Halifax playing a strong, two centre midfield format, Linda Clarkson playing just behind Molly Midgley who had another great game, both kept the centre secure and the Halifax play out wide to Claire Robertshaw. Claire had a couple of close strikes on goal, but just wide to the right of the post.
A long clearance from Rachel Rosier (sweeper) followed by a run by Tracey Helliwell and a cross into the D allowed Anj Wright an excellent reverse stick strike hitting the back of the net – unfortunately discounted as back sticks by the umpire.
The second half, starting 0-0 saw a little more play in the Halifax half, especially down the Centre and Leeds right wing, pushing the Halifax left mid and left defence – resulting in another excellent performance by Laura Neimantes, left back, who demonstrated great tackling and clearances and won the man of the match.
A couple of short corners against Halifax had them holding their breath but finally Halifax managed to get the only goal of the match – another lovely strike from Captain Anj Wright.
