Halifax Ladies IV 3-0 Leeds Adel IV
Following a withdrawal due to injury immediately before the match Halifax played this fixture with only 10 players. On the plus side it meant players were playing in one position for the whole match and they were able to settle into a rhythm.
The first half was fairly even, with Leigh Hirst and Penny Haigh instrumental at driving the ball forwards for Halifax and Claire Hoey reading the game well at the back and providing a clear structure.
Following some slight changes to the formation at half time Halifax began to dominate despite their numerical disadvantage. Cara Casson and Lauren Gillespie created the first goal, linking well up the left side of the pitch for Penny Haigh to score.
Adel bounced back and won a short corner from which Katie Collins saved and set the ball forward. The quick break saw Casson extend the lead.
The game became stretched as players tired but Haigh sealed the victory when she showed a clean pair of heels to outpace Adel’s defenders with a run from the half way line and score her second goal of the game.
