Brilliant win for Ladies 4s

Following on from the disappointment of having conceded a goal late in last week’s match Halifax were determined to come back stronger and attacked the City of York defence right from the start.

Claire Robertshaw and Helen Williams made the most of the balls sent through from the mid-field. The City of York goalkeeper who, despite the score, had an excellent game kept the scores level at 0-0 until Robertshaw finally put the ball in the back of the net.

Williams scored Halifax’s second soon after deflecting in a penalty corner strike from Rachel Rosier.

City of York kept strong but struggled to break through the Halifax press with midfielders Felicity Raud, Cara Casson and Sarah Batty preventing the ball reaching the forwards. Towards the end of the first half their perseverance paid off and a breakaway attack beat keeper Beth Smith, who had little to do prior to this.

Man of the Match Gemma Robinson and youngster Issie English worked alongside Rosier to prevent City of York scoring again. Some slick two touch passing helped Claire Robertshaw scored two more for a hat-trick and it could have been more as she missed a sitter late on. A break down the right saw Jo Hardingham pass the ball into the area for youngster Felicity Raud to push the ball through the keeper’s legs. City of York never gave up even when Williams scored her second, though their attempts on goal rarely made it into the Halifax area.

The match finished with a deserved win 6-1 for Halifax with a team of youngsters and new players combining well with some of last seasons’ regulars.
