A very creditable performance by a young Halifax team against a much more experienced side saw them narrowly lose 1-0

Halifax gave debuts to Izzy English-Burns in defence and Ani Bari in midfield.

Rachael Rosier and Rachael Robertshaw marshalled the defence well with Rosier's hit outs outstanding throughout the match. Going forward Sydny Midgley and Felicity Raud linked well and their skill and pace troubled the Bradford defence. Lydia Robinson playing as a central striker grew into the match and her strong forward running promised a break through which never came. Helen Williams, newcomer to the team this season came on a substitute and had some lovely touches to bring others into play going forward.

Tireless running and closing down by Bari, Pippa Walker and Sarah Batty restricted Bradford’s chances with Rosier and Sacha Penny-Ward in Halifax’s goals being able to deal with any threats in the shooting area. In the last few minutes of the match Bradford broke the deadlock in amazing style. Bradford’s sweeper strode forward, juggled the ball in a mover reminiscent of GB’s Olympic performances before slotting a pass to Bradford’s centre forward who struck a thunderbolt from the edge of the goal circle past the awe-struck Halifax keeper. A worthy winner but hardly a move expected to seal the points in a Yorkshire Division 5 match!
