Airedale gained quick possession after Halifax started the game and almost scored within the first minute. It proved to be a wake up call for Halifax who improved quickly and dominated the next 20 minutes, threatening the Airedale goal on multiple occasions.
Phoebe Tomlinson was foiled by the keeper when she was put through by Emma Clarkson’s pass which eliminated the last defender. Soon after Lydia Robinson made a great break down the right after good work in midfield by Grace Allen, only to see her inviting cross beat everyone.
Halifax were to regret their wasted chances when Airedale scored against the run of play.
Airedale then applied pressure as Halifax struggled to clear their lines. After a strong shot from the top of the circle Airedale doubled their lead despite the heroics of Sasha Penny-Ward in the Halifax goal.
The second half saw Airedale in the ascendency with Penny-Ward beating out numerous shots on goal.
Their pressure eventual told and Airedale were awarded a short corner which saw the keeper beaten, only for sister Amber Penny-Ward to make a goal line clearance.
Despite Claire Hoey’s efforts to marshal the defence and some fine balls forward Airedale added to their lead midday way through the half.
Halifax had some threatening runs on the break with Vicki Ferdinando and Phoebe Tomlinson driving the ball purposely forward but they could not manage to find the net.
