On the back of a win against Leeds 5 the previous week in which youngster Leah Kalter scored both goals in the 2-1 victory, her first in senior hockey, Halifax were quietly confident despite facing Ben Rhydding, 4 places above them in the league.
The first half saw Ben Rhydding take the lead, completely against the run of play as Halifax dominated the game but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Ben Rhydding caught the defence by surprise with a break away attack and the two on one saw keeper Sasha Penny-Ward beaten.
The visitors started to get a hold of the game just before the break but a change of tactic saw Halifax once again in charge in the second half and it wasn’t long before new player Amy Marsh warranted her selection with a first goal to even the score.
Ben Rhydding make a few breaks but the Halifax defence of Sydney Midgeley, Claire Robertshaw, Anya Wasilewski, Lora Walker and Pippa Walker coping well giving Penny-Ward little to do.
The midfield Player of the Match Annie Denton worked hard alongside Leah Kalter and with the home team pressing forward it wasn’t long before they scored a second.
Awarded a short corner, Emma Clarkson injected before deflecting the shot into the back of the net. Not content with taking the lead, Halifax continued to press forward up the right with Sarah Batty and Jo Hardingham linking well to beat the tiring Ben Rhydding defence.
A lovely ball in from the right found Phoebe Tomlinson whose hard work throughout the match was rewarded with the third goal.
Halifax continued to press but failed to score again but were satisfied with the well deserved win.
