A young, inexperienced and unlucky Ladies 4s lost 1-0 to Selby

This was a close encounter played in dreadful conditions at Park Lane.

Halifax fielded a young and relatively inexperienced team and were unlucky not to come away with a point against third place Selby.

Leigh Hirst made many positive runs forward and along with the strong tackling Leah Kalter battled well in the centre of midfield. Rachel Rosier held the defensive line together well and made some excellent clearances forward but this was not a day for being on the wing where the ball rarely came and uninvolved players got very cold in the driving torrential rain which saw the pitch start to get waterlogged.

Halifax enjoyed some forays into the Selby goal circle with Lydia Robinson giving the defence some problems with her pace. There was no score at half time.

Midway through the second half Selby scored when Sasha Penny-Ward, who had kept goal well in the first period, failed to clear at the first attempt and was outnumbered by the quick Selby attack.

Halifax were guilty of playing the ball down the middle too much but when the ball broke down the right for Robinson she beat the defender before cutting the ball back perfectly for the well placed Annie Denton whose shot beat the keeper but went just wide.

The final whistle went with Halifax still pressing for an equaliser.
