Ben Rhydding IV 1-7 Halifax III

Halifax travelled away to Ben Rhydding last weekend to play a team that have been having a mixed run of form this season.

Ben Rhydding beat top of the league Scarborough two weeks ago, so this could have been a tricky fixture for Halifax. The away side travelled without a substitute, but they didnt allow this to deter them. The first 10 minutes of the game saw both teams come close to scoring and three consecutive penalty corners for the home side saw the Halifax defence put under a lot of pressure. However, defenders Jess Stott, Sam Garlinge, Laura Neimantas and Hannah Speakman didn't crack under the pressure and cleared the ball to safety.

A quick counter attack through midfielders Margaret Bottomley and Nicola Boulton saw Courtney White fire the ball into the net to get Halifax's first goal of the game. Then a well worked penalty corner saw Helen Williams double the lead. Ellie Sutcliffe made a great break into the 'D' and scored Halifax's third, and Williams and White both scored again to take the score to 5-0 at the half.

A bit of complacency at the start of the second half saw Halifax concede a sloppy goal, but this didnt stop them pushing on, with White getting her hatrick 5 minutes later. Halifax dominated possession throughout the game which led to another well worked penalty corner in the second half. Williams scored but the goal was disallowed by the home umpire.

The Ben Rhydding goalkeeper made some good saves to try and stop Halifax, but they had one more goal in the locker and Williams sealed her hatrick with a great goal with 10 minutes to go.

This dominant performance sees Halifax move back to 2nd in the table.
