Halifax III 3-3 Sheffield Hallam III

After losing a close fought game against Sheffield Hallam before Christmas, Halifax were determined not to suffer the same fate in the home fixture.

From the start of the match, Halifax showed aggression and power going forward and were unlucky not go ahead in the first five minutes. Many chances were created but the Sheffield defence and goalkeeper managed to keep the home side at bay.

Sheffield were awarded a penalty corner halfway through the half and finished their first opportunity on goal to go ahead. Ten minutes before the break, Courtney White, who had terrorised the Sheffield back four in the away fixture, made a lightning quick run down the right flank, passing the ball into the 'D' and after a goal mouth scramble, Margaret Bottomley slotted the ball into the net from the penalty spot.

After half time, Sheffield managed to get two quick goals caused by some uncharacteristically sloppy defending from Halifax. But Halifax were determined not to fold and pushed on to get a result. Captain Jess Stott fired the ball from the defensive 'D' up to forward White, who once again, used her lightning quick speed to sail past the defenders, skip round the goalkeeper and put the ball in the goal to bring the game back to 3-2.

With 10 minutes left in the match, midfielders Anya Wasilewski, Hannah Speakman and Bottomley, drove the team forward to try and clinch an equaliser.

A quick sideline ball from Speakman, saw Helen Williams pick the ball up on the 25 metre line, pass on to White, to then receive it back in the 'D'.

A clinical finish from Williams saw Halifax's successful fight back earn them a well deserved point.
