Ladies 2nds bounced back from their disappointing defeat last weekend with a solid home win against a depleated Cleckheaton.

Halifax 2nds 3-0 Cleckheaton 1sts

Scorers : Bottomley, Holroyd, Parker

Halifax bounced back from their disappointing defeat last weekend with a solid home win against a depleated Cleckheaton side.

The away team started the game with only 10 players which gave Halifax the advantage right from the first whistle. Halifax started strongly as a result, and were on top from the start piling the pressure on the Cleckheaton defence.

It wasn’t long before a spell of great passing from the midfield of Ruth Bury, Ruth Prosser, Adele Cocker, Claire Waldron and Ellen Campsall led to Margaret Bottomley putting the ball in the back of the net by flicking over the goal keeper.

Just before half time, Cleckheaton were down to 8 players and this meant Halifax had an abundance of space to play with. Halifax pushed forward and a great ball into the ‘D’ from defender Jess Speight saw Michaela Holroyd score Halifax’s second goal, doubling the score just before the break.

Not surprisingly, Halifax had most of the possession in the 2nd half. Cleckheaton were pinned back and with most of their players behind the ball, Halifax struggled to get the ball passed the Cleckheaton goalkeeper.

However, the Halifax persistance and determination paid off when Dani Parker managed to create herself a chance on goal and got Halifax’s third goal.

This win sees Halifax move to 5th in Yorkshire Division 3, with a game in hand over most other teams.
