Ladies 2s narrow defeat to local rivals

Ladies 2’s faced their rivals Huddersfield Dragons this week on home turf at Park Lane.

It was shaping up to be the coldest match of the season with snow lying on the hills and sleet hitting the pitch in the warm up.

Halifax started strong with Rebecca Brown and Grace Ramsden up front keeping an unchanging amount of pressure on the Huddersfield defence. Halifax looked threatening, particularly for the first 15.

The opposition took that pressure and after some great saves from the Huddersfield keeper, started some dangerous counters. Their two attackers paired well with some great sticks skills to move the ball down the line and to the high forward. Huddersfield beat Halifax captain Beccy Fisk by hitting the post and bouncing in to make the score 1-0.

The pressure stayed consistent on the Halifax defence, and despite making life difficult for Huddersfield, Leah Kalter, Cat Vose and Beth Smith’s great defensive tackles weren’t enough to stop Huddersfield making the score 2-0 going into half time.

Round 2 saw Halifax respond, hungry for the win in the second half. The sun gave both teams a break from the terrible weather and Halifax piled on the pressure with Rebecca Brown lifting a hit at the keeper but only found the crossbar.

Eventually, Ruth Bury’s skills on the edge of the D led to a pass into Rebecca Brown who managed take the score to 2-1.

The last ten minutes of the game saw both teams equal in goal opportunities, but both keepers kept the score line the same with diving stick saves to see the end result as a 2-1 win to Huddersfield Dragons
