A last gasp winner earnt the Ladies 2s their first win of the season beating Northallerton 3-2 at home

The ladies two’s faced mid-table Northallerton this Saturday on home turf. Having just gone through a tough string of four losses, Halifax needed a win to turn a corner for the season to keep themselves from the prospect of relegation again.

With the sun shining over Park Lane on an unexpectedly warm Autumn day, the match got off to a tense start with both teams looking like they could take the first goal. Northallteron started the game with a strong attack on the Halifax dee, but some solid tackling from the back line of Beth Smith, Cat Vose and Leah Kalter meant the score line stayed 0-0 for the first 15 minutes. After a poignant start from Northallerton, Halifax responded with quite a few opportunities in the oppositions dee. Unfortunately, Northallerton managed to taken advantage of a counter attack. They manage to put the first goal in the back of the net, despite vice captain Cat Vose having to leave the pitch due to injury after clearing the ball off the Halifax goal line not 5 minutes earlier.

The first half ended 1-1 with a goal from Halifax from a short corner hit by Rebecca Brown. The half time team talk from coach Andy Jackson gave the Halifax side the push they needed to go into the second half with a real fighting chance of taking home the win they so desperately wanted. The game stayed pretty evenly matched through most of the second half, with great chances at goal from both sides, putting goalkeeper Beccy Fisk through her paces. The second goal slipped through after Northallerton took a free hit in the 23 quickly before the Halifax defence could respond. Regardless of being a goal down, Halifax continued to press down on the Northallerton defence until player of the match Ruth Prosser put the equaliser in the back of the net. The game was at 2-2 with five minutes to go, and most were begging the clock to run down to leave Halifax with at least one point on the board for the season. The Halifax attack didn’t have the same thoughts though, with Sara Woodhead flicking the ball over the keeper from a rebound, all that was left for Halifax to do was to keep their heads run the clock down for the last 2 minutes.

The game ended at a 3-2 win for Halifax, giving the team the push they need to start working their way back up the league table.
