In a bottom of the table clash, Halifax ladies 2’s faced Harrogate 2’s on Saturday.
The Halifax squad came to the pitch ready to end the first half of their season on a high. The match started strongly for Halifax, and their persistence paid off with a strong shot driving into the corner of Harrogate’s goal in the first half from Rachel Hoyle.
The intensity stayed high, and both teams were battling hard, and were quite evenly matched. Unfortunately, despite some outstanding tackles from the back from Cat Vose and Anna Butterworth, the opposition managed to equalise before the end of the first half. They pulled the ball across the goal to find a player on the far post ready to tap it in.
The second half both teams came out strong, but Halifax seemed to be camped in the Harrogate dee for quite some time. Despite two short corners Halifax just couldn’t seem to convert those attacking chances into goals.
In the last ten minutes of the second half, players were tired and the intensity started to drop, which Harrogate jumped on and countered with a second goal making the final score 2-1.
Halifax were devastated not to be ending for Christmas on a high, but certainly had one of their best games of the season and are hoping to come out much stronger in the New Year.
