Halifax ladies seconds, still searching for a win this season took on top of the table Leeds in their latest Yorkshire Premier Division match.
Without key defenders, Halifax employed tactics to try to make themselves hard to break down and battled hard from the start. An lucky deflection led to a goal being scored by Leeds within the first few minutes.
Halifax showed great resilience and the team worked well as a unit to defend the middle with April Hendy clearing the ball effectively out wide, allowing Halifax to move the ball up the pitch. Strong defending from Anna Butterworth, Steph Hoyle and Becky Murray helped Halifax to hold off the strong Leeds team.
Beccy Fisk had a another good yet tough game in goal, clearing shots effectively to allow the defence to set up again. However after a slick short corner routine Leeds scored again towards the end of the first half.
Throughout the second half Halifax kept the intensity high, enjoyed more possession and territory and did not concede any more goals. The final score was 2-0 but nevertheless the team had an outstanding match.
