Ladies 2s lost 7-0 to high flying Leeds University 2s

Halifax ladies 2s, without a league win this season lost a tough match against top of the table Leeds University 2s whose record stood at 8 wins and 1 draw going into the contest.

The game started with both sides battling for possession and Leeds coming away with a goal early on in the match. Despite some good hockey by Halifax, in particular up the left flank by Niamh Brennan, the league leaders scored a second before half time.

The Halifax defence worked hard in the second half pushing the ball up to the midfield. With Bethany Smith channelling the ball up the right hand side and April Hendy pushing forward to feed into the D goal chances were provided for Halifax and they threatened a come back in the early stages of the second half.

The few chances created were squandered and by midway through the half Leeds were dominant. The second half ended in multiple defensive short corners for Halifax, with Cat Vose, Steph Hoyle, Anna Butterworth and Hendy working hard to clear the ball.

Beccy Fisk had a tough time in the Halifax goal, saving some fantastic shots made by the Leeds students, only to find the ball coming back towards her.

After Leeds scored three goals in quick succession Halifax were glad to hear the final whistle.
