Ladies 2nds claimed the league and cup double, beating Lincoln Roses 2-0 to finish off an outstanding season

After winning Yorkshire Division 3, Halifax II played in the Yvonne Horner Shield Cup Final determined to finish on a high.

The away side have won Yorkshire Division 5 this season so both teams were playing for the double which created a fantastic atmosphere. Fans from both sides lined the side of the pitch showing their support.

From the first whistle, Halifax could see they were not in for an easy game. The defence of Alison McManus, Jess Speight, Ruth Bury and Tracey Helliwell stayed tight, managing to prevent the Lincoln attack from scoring early. About 20 minutes into the first half, some brilliant play from the midfield saw Margaret Bottomley get the vital first goal.

Lincoln pushed on, breaking and creating opportunities. They won a penalty corner, and it appeared they had scored from this, however, the umpire disallowed the goal, saying the ball was not struck inside the 'D'.

Halifax took the opportunity to counter attack and the midfield of Bottomley, Adele Cocker, Ellen Campsall and Louise Bottomley powered forward to create an opportunity for Dani Parker to score Halifax's second goal.

The home side knew Lincoln would come at them at the start of the second half, but they managed to stay tight.

Nicola Boulton and Rachel Hoyle worked hard in midfield to retrieve the ball and forwards Michaela Holroyd and Parker were creating chances but were unable to convert.

Goalkeeper, Annie Staples, organised the defence well in the dying minutes of the game to ensure Halifax came away with the win.

A superb end to a superb season!!!!!
