Halifax 2s 0-4 Driffield 2s

Halifax 2s turned to youth for the opening game of the season as they played Driffield in warm temperatures at Park Lane.

In the first half Halifax and Driffield shared possession and both created some good chances to score. With one sub versus Driffields three it was always going to be a battle of fitness and a race to score the first goal. Halifax created several opportunities and more than their opposition but failed to find the back of the net as the score line remained goalless at half time.

In terms of the second half this didn’t go as well for Halifax but they still put in a good performance that can be a foundation for game two next week. Driffield managed to score the opener shortly after the restart and then found the net a second time ten minutes later to make it 0-2. Halifax responded by creating a few chances but just couldn’t find the back of the net. At the other end Lee Power made some great saves at point blank range and Peter Stobart defended superbly to stop Driffield on a number of occasions and subsequently picked up the Man of the Match award.

Driffield finished the game the stronger team with Halifax playing on the counter attack and they scored two late goals to make it 0-4.

The score line flattered Driffield slightly and Halifax deserved a goal or two on the balance of play. Halifax played some good stuff and they can now build on this performance for their second league game at Brigg on Saturday.
