A comfortable home win 6-3 against Leeds saw Halifax Ladies 1s remain top of the league and move another step closer to securing promotion

Halifax Ladies I 6-3 Leeds Ladies I

Halifax Ladies 1s continued their promotion push with another win in North of England Division 2.

From the outset Halifax gave some impressive play, working as a unit together to push Leeds Ladies 2s back into their own half and apply pressure to the visitors. However, a break from Leeds in the first four minutes placed them 1 goal down. Halifax failed to let this affect them, and pulled together to put the pressure back on Leeds and within 6 minutes they placed the game back in their hands, with a fantastic strike from Georgie Westwood. The fast pace of the game guaranteed that although Halifax maintained the majority of the first half possession Leeds were dangerous on the break and a penalty corner saw them take the lead at half time 2-1.

Halifax came out in the second half determined to make sure that the game ended with the win they deserved. With tactical defence and out letting, Halifax found their midfield with ease and set the ball forwards to continue the pressure on Leeds, and their keeper. Extra practice at training sessions on penalty corners paid off and Amelie Horner stole in on the back right post to draw the sides level.
Leeds failed to respond to continued pressured play and a penalty flick was awarded. Lauren Vials kept her calm and placed the ball into the right corner. 3-2 up, Halifax were now on a goal streak. Michaela Holroyd and Katie Wood gave some great play in the front 3, to give Halifax another two goals to allow a 5-2 lead.

Against the run of play Leeds pulled one back before Dani Parker finished the match in style, following a well worked short corner routine.

A special mention must go to Cassie Barker, the Halifax keeper for her performance and effort despite playing on an injury- the backbone of the team.
