After a superb win the previous week, the team were lacklustre and even when they dominated the game the final pass or shot just didn't have the same venom.

The game started with Halifax dominant and both Halifax Strikers Matthew Graham and Jake Bamforth hitting the post before young starlet Matthew Bairstow fired in a ferocious shot which the Grimsby keeper could only deflect into his own net.

Bairstow made it 2-0 shortly after sneaking in at the far post to slip the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.

Grimsby had a couple of really good players and the defence had to be sharp on a couple of occasions to keep a clean sheet in the 1st half.

Matthew Metcalfe made a couple of good saves and Michael Jones, Leigh Walker and Simon Arch were steady. It was Jones who stepped up to give the team a 3 goal cushion firing in a rocket shot from a penalty corner.

Halifax then had enough possession to put the game to bed but poor choices and some sloppy play gave the visitors some hope and Metcalfe will be annoyed with the 2 Grimsby goals which got them back into the game.

Man of the match Josh Sutcliffe settled the team down with a splendid finish from close range after good work from Bairstow and Damien Reynolds.

The game was in the dying seconds when Grimsby scored on the break to make it 4-3.

With one game remaining against the new promotion candidates Hull University 1sts before Xmas(who are now in 2nd place), the team will need to step up a gear to make sure their unbeaten record stays intact and they can really enjoy the 3 week winter break.
