Halifax 1sts continued their excellent run of results with a comfortable 3-1 win over bottom of the league Sheffield Hallam

It was clear from the off that the lads were capable of a win with Sheffield looking 2nd best in most departments and the team dominated the early possession with some solid passing.

Leigh Walker, Henry Shelton and Josh Foreman were rarely troubled in the defence and Michael Jones was revelling in his new front position in the absence of star striker(Matthew Graham).

It was Jones who opened the scoring flicking the ball in after fine work from Matthew Bairstow and Jake Bamforth down the right.

Bamforth soon made it 2 tapping the ball home after Jones had beaten the keeper with a good run.

With Richard Marshall Josh Sutcliffe and Gabe Coleman in charge of the midfield, it looked liked Halifax could score at will but a couple of missed chances and some sloppy play ended in Sheffield scoring from a penalty corner to give them some hope.

Half time came at a good time and with the team talk centring around the need to keep up the tempo and avoid complacency. The team obliged and began to dominate again and created chances. Bairstow and Coleman came close and Cameron Hellowell did well on his 1st team debut but it was Jones who put the game to bed with a superb drag flick.

The game opened up in the last 15 minutes but the few attacks mounted by Sheffield were dealt with competently by keeper James Smith who was making his debut for the 1st team.

A 3-1 win but the result was marred by the late groin injury to Bairstow who if not fit for next week will be sorely missed.
