Halifax continued their unbeaten record in 2013 with a 2 - 0 away victory over Hull University 1sts.

The game started evenly with both sides threatening on the counter attack.

Excellent defensive displays from Henry Shelton and man of the match David Wheatley limited Hull to few chances and Matthew Metcalfe recorded his first clean sheet of the season.

The balance of the game changed after ten minutes as Halifax started to create more chances with quick breaks from Matthew Graham and Jake Bamforth up front.

Fresh from his call up to the North squad Matthew Bairstow provided excellent running on the right wing and now just needs to find the final ball to create the goals that will follow.

The Hull goalkeeper was in inspired form and produced several excellent saves before the deadlock was finally broken.

After shots from both Graham and Bamforth were both saved, the ball fell to the tireless Gabe Coleman-Moffat who produced a reverse stick shot into the bottom right corner to score.

The second goal for Halifax was created just before the half time whistle after some fine tactical play by the whole team and Manager Leigh Walker.

Trying to pass the ball out the defence Hull were frustrated into a mis placed pass by the Halifax defensive discipline. Halifax countered and Matthew Bairstow applied the finishing touch from the right low into the goal.

The second half was more even in possession with the play dominated in the middle of the pitch for long periods.

However, it was Halifax that produced the more clear cut opportunities and Josh Sutcliffe might feel he could have scored a third with a chance from 8 yards out, that produced a spectacular full length diving save from the Hull keeper.

Overall, Halifax will be very pleased with the performance, which now takes them to two wins from two games this season and joint top of Division 1.

Next week its a home fixture against Sheffield Hallam and with a few players unavailable it will be another tough test early in the season.
