If the team can get a good result against 2nd place Leeds next Saturday, promotion as champions is a real possibility.
Once again the team tried to build on their passing game to outplay a route 1 Scarborough who were always dangerous with quick skilful forwards.
Halifax took the lead 15 minutes into the game when Jake Balmforth saw a goalward shot stopped illegally by a Scarborough defender-Balmforth himself scored from the the resultant penalty.
Scarborough struck back quickly with a soft goal with a mishit shot that somehow beati the Halifax Defence and keeper Metcalfe to bobble into the goal. Halifax were having the majority of possession with Tom Love, Peter Bamforth, Josh Sutcliffe, Matthew Bairstow and Matthew Graham all playing well and after another good attacking move, Josh Foreman set up Balmforth for his 2nd goal.
Once again some sloppy play allowed Scarborough to get an equaliser just before half time which was a shame for the defence who were looking solid. Sutcliffe got Halifax back in the lead with a good solo goal with the Scarborough defence backing off and allowing the skilful teenager the space to show his skills.
For the 3rd time Scarborough equalised with a well worked goal from a quick counter. Halifax were not to be denied and the winner was the pick of the goals- Simon Arch who was having a really good game at left back started the move which saw the ball switched quickly to the right for Bairstow who see the run of star striker Graham, he took the ball at pace to beat his marker before calmly slotting the ball home.
The last 10 minutes were a little nervy as Scarborough tried to salvage a point but Michael Jones, Dave Wheatley and Leigh Walker held firm in defence and Ryan Dransfield worked tirelessly to deny Scarborough space.
