Bad form coninues for the Men's 1sts with another defeat 6-2 away to Brigg 2nds

Brigg 2nds 6 – 2 Halifax 1sts

Scorers : Graham M, Bamforth

The Men’s 1sts run off bad form continued as a disasterous 1st half on Saturday proved fatal as the team went down 6-2 to Brigg.

It was like men against boys in the 1st half as Brigg capatalised on weak play from Halifax with wave upon wave of attacks hit the halifax defence as they raced into a 4-0 lead.

Matthew Graham’s 15th goal of the season 30 minutes into the game gave the 5-1 half time scoreline some respectability.

The team produced an improved 2nd half with Sam Spencer and Josh Foeman more solid in defence with the young teenage midfield trio of Josh Sutcliffe, Kristian Mayland and Tom Love able to keep possession for longer periods and set up more attacking options.

Jake Bamforth got a 2nd goal firing in from a penalty corner after being set up by Paul Graham.

Matthew Bairstow was causing the Brigg defence problems with his quick and skillful runs down the right but his final shot or pass was unusually lacking accuracy on a day when things just didn’t work.

Injuries to Johnny Sutcliffe and Matthew Graham didn’t help the cause late in the game and despite a solid performance by the Halifax keeper, Matthew Metcalfe, he was helpless to stop Brigg getting a 6th goal as once again a poor piece of control allowed their centre forward space infront of goal and he scored with ease.

It will be important for the team to get out of this losing streak soon, as they slip into midtable.

The return of influential vice captain Leigh Walker and the skilful Richard Marshall next week should help their cause.
