A new season, a new league, a new team!

As far as season openers go, Halifax Men’s 1st Team’s season couldn’t have gotten off a better start. On a sunny afternoon in Leeds, the Men’s 1s started a rebuilding season in best way possible.

Having been given a new ‘free roaming’ role, Man of Match – Michael Jones, terrorised the Leeds midfield and defence, not to mention their goalkeeper, with 3 thunderous strikes within the first 15min of the 1st half to give Halifax an early grip on the game at 3-0

Feeling as though the job was done Fax relaxed and let Leeds back into the game. Changing formation seemed to bring panic into what had been a solid start!

Fortunately, the debut of keeper Lee Wheatcroft manged to hold back the Leeds ‘comeback’ to a single goal. Fax went into halftime with 3-1 lead but were lucky it wasn’t closer.

After a spirited team talk they went back to what had been working, which paid dividends straight away.

Within minutes of the restart Jones bagged his 4th with a well placed drag flick. Leeds carried on pushing and were rewarded with a second goal, However Jones cancelled that out with his 5th of the game with yet another drag flick!

Halifax maintained a hi tempo style for the rest of the half. Josh Foreman picking out Jones which was surely going to end in his 6th goal but the keeper just managed to get something on the attempted lob and David Wheatley was on hand to tuck home the loose ball.

The final goal was put away by Rob Amos, following great work down the right with the help of John Horsley.

The final score finished 7-2 and Halifax take the great display forward in a couple of weeks time against City of York.
