An excellent 5-1 home victory against Hull Uni for Men's 1s with Jones bagging another hat-trick

Halifax 1 5-1 Hull Uni 1

Halifax followed up their comprehensive win last week with another comfortable 5-1 victory at home against Hull University 1s

With Ben Greenwood ruled out, Oliver James moved up from the 2nd team to bolster the squad.

Hull got off to a great start and dominated the opening 10minutes. Despite Hull retaining possession well and playing between the gaps in the midfield, the Halifax defence was standing firm with Josh Sutcliffe and David Wheatley quick to shut out the danger.

A slight tactical tweak to combat the Hull dominance saw the game switch in Halifax's favour. Gabe Coleman and and Michael Jones were able to assert more control in midfield and chances were beginning to come for the home team.

Jones opened the scoring from a penalty corner. Jones, along with the strike partnership of Jake Bamforth and Matthew Graham were starting to pick up where they left off last week with some sublime link up play in the Hull final third.

Graham and then Bamforth in quick succession made it 3-0 to Halifax.

Jones then got his second. A lovely move through the midfield saw Tom Love feed Graham wide on the left. His first time through ball set up Jones in the D and whilst the chance looked lost, Jones with his back to goal span on a sixpence and sent the ball flying into the goal beyond the keeper who didn't even see it.

4 goals down in a 10minute spell and the game looked to have gone from Hull as frustration started to show in their play.

The second half was a scrappy affair with missed opportunities for Halifax to get another big score.

They were rarely troubled at the back however, and James had an excellent debut slotting into the back line and restricting Hulls chances.

Jones made it 5-0, and with it his hat trick, with another well executed penalty corner. That's back to back hat tricks for the midfielder who is in excellent form.

Hull pulled a goal back via a rare penalty corner of their own with the last action of the game that denied Halifax their clean sheet. A disappointing end to the game for the home side but plenty of positives throughout.

That's two wins on the bounce and up to 6th in the table after the poor start. Halifax look forward to yet another home game next Saturday against Airedale.
