Men's 1s suffered a 10-1 defeat to Huddersfield who look to have clinched the league title with the win.

Huddersfield 10-1 Halifax

In the penultimate game of the season Halifax faced top of the league Huddersfield who knew that a win would almost guarantee they are champions (due to their outstanding goal difference)

Despite a steady start Halifax, Huddersfield were soon 2-0 up with two superbly taken goals from one of their star players. 2-0 was soon 3-0 with a well-executed short corner routine that’s was deflected high into the net.

Halifax welcomed start striker Matthew Graham back into the team following a 7 week absence and he went close with a couple of half chances as Halifax looked to reassert themselves in the game. Captain Jake Bamforth and full back Ben Greenwood were working well down the right and Sam Spencer was playing some nice through balls from the left. Despite winning a few short corners Halifax were unable to find a way through before halftime. 3-0 at the break.

The second half went entirely the way of Huddersfield as a combination of them upping their game and Halifax losing concentration and their shape through tiredness of chasing down a team of Huddersfield’s quality.

With goals going in with regular occurrence, keeper Matthew Breton put in yet another man of the match display with a string of fine saves. Breton’s performances have been the highlight of the season in this his first as the regular 1st team keeper following club legend Matthew Metcalfe’s retirement in the summer.

Greenwood managed a consolation goal for Halifax midway through the half. Neatly finishing at the back post on the volley after good work from Connor Sutcliffe managed to beat a number of players down the left and fire in the cross from a tight angle.

Final game next week against Leeds 3. With Halifax going into the final game with a 2point advantage over rivals Grimsby (away at Harrogate) and Ben Rhydding (home against Bradford) a win will see them safe and avoid any nail-biting waits on other results.
