Halifax Men's 1s earned a point after a hard fought 2-2 draw away at Rotherham

The squad was missing the central defence pairing of Leigh Walker and David Wheatley, however captain Matthew Graham returned to the team after injury.

Halifax faced the team that joined them in the promotion to the Premier Division last season.

Rotherham applied pressure from the off and kept Halifax in their own half during the early stages of the game. The majority of Halifax’s threat going forward was through Michael Jones’ aerials downfield to Matthew Graham and Jake Bamforth.

Halifax were soon punished for conceding too many penalty corners as they found themselves behind through a flick from the edge of the D.

Halifax almost equalised after a goalmouth scramble involving a number of Halifax players but Casey Marshall eventually dragged his effort wide. Rotherham then scored their second goal of the game with a stunning effort into the top corner.

Halifax were much improved in the second half and began to dominate possession. The defence improved and Metcalfe made a couple of important saves.

The fight back ensued as Jake Bamforth fed the ball to Josh Barron at the top of the D and Barron struck a shot into the far corner.

The momentum was then with Halifax as they searched for the equaliser. As bodies piled forward in the dying moments, Barron was on hand at the post to divert a Jones shot into the goal.

Halifax pushed for a winner but the full time whistle arrived shortly after.

Halifax play their first home game of the season next weekend as they host Leeds 4s.
