The Halifax U16 girls travelled to Leeds Grammar in their latest Yorkshire league games

The Halifax U16 girls had 6 short matches and did reasonably well but missed chances proved costly.

Halifax 0 - 1 Wakefield

Halifax started the game strongly with Robyn Fawkes dribbling through the Wakefield defence into the 'D' only to shoot wide. Halifax continued to press but the opening goal wouldn't come. With time running out Wakefield broke down the right and a chipped reverse stick shot found the corner of the Halifax goal to give Wakefield the win in the last minute of the game.

Halifax 0 - 0 Slazengers

An evenly matched game with both teams attacking well but the Halifax defence of Leah Kalter, Anya Wasilewski, Emma Whitaker and Grace Allen comfortably dealt with any threat. Fawkes, Phoebe Tomlinson and Annie Denton all had reasonable chances to give Halifax the lead but their shots went wide of the goal.

Halifax 0 - 0 Northallerton

Halifax frustrated by the lack of goals attacked the game in positive fashion with good work down the right & left wings by Amy March and Maria Lomas. Chances fell to Tomlinson and Denton but once again their shots were found wanting. To rub salt into the wounds Allen picked up a knee injury ending her participation for the day.

Halifax 1 - 0 Harrogate

Halifax dominated the game from the start with good pressure from Fawkes and Anna Butterworth in mid field. The pressure lead to a short corner which was converted by Fawkes for their first goal of the tournament. A good shot from Denton narrowly went wide. Good tackling by Sydney Midgley stopped a rare break from Harrogate.

Halifax 0 - 0 Airedale

A midfield battle took place with neither team able to break each other down. Good work by Cara Casson in midfield. Good chance by Butterworth blocked on line.

Halifax 2 - 0 Leeds

Halifax put everything into their last game of the day, great passing moves kept Leeds on the back foot, Halifax pressure eventually lead to a short corner which was duly converted by Fawkes. Plenty of chances came Halifax way with Tomlinson and Denton coming close on a number of occasions. It took a crazy run by Fawkes across the top of the 'D' followed by a fierce shot into the far corner to extend the Halifax lead. Excellent midfield work by March, Lomas, Wasilewski and Butterworth.

Kathy Shao in the Halifax goal was a mere spectator for most of the morning!
