Weekend Round Up - October 3rd 2026

Halifax Hockey

Men's 2s hit ten, Parker hat-trick inspires Ladies' 1s, and Halifax continue to showcase strength across the club.

Halifax HC Hit Double Figures as Ladies’ 1s March On

Halifax Hockey Club enjoyed another productive weekend, highlighted by a dominant victory for the Ladies' 1st XI and a remarkable ten-goal haul for the Men's 2nd XI. Elsewhere, the Ladies' 2nd XI and Men's 1st XI suffered disappointing defeats, while the Men's 3rd XI were awarded a walkover victory after their opponents were unable to raise a side.

Ladies’ 1st XI Turn On the Style

Halifax Ladies' 1st XI maintained their perfect start to the season with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Sheffield Phoenix at Park Lane.

The hosts dominated from the opening whistle and rarely allowed the visitors an opportunity to threaten. The only real scare came when Phoenix struck the post, but Halifax were otherwise firmly in control throughout.

The scoring was opened by Isobel Crowe, who reacted quickest to a rebound to put Halifax ahead.

Dani Parker then doubled the advantage with the goal of the game, volleying home from a penalty corner before Courtenay Fisher continued her excellent goalscoring form by finishing off some slick team play down the wing.

Parker completed her hat-trick with two further strikes, including a superb finish from a tight angle, before Martha Mackrill rounded off the scoring after another flowing Halifax move.

Parker deservedly collected Player of the Match honours for her three-goal display, while Mackrill earned special praise for her tireless running and creativity throughout the game.

The victory keeps Halifax's unbeaten run intact and sets up an intriguing test against a strong Harrogate side next weekend.

Men’s 1st XI Frustrated by Slazengers

Halifax Men's 1st XI suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat at home to Slazengers despite enjoying large periods of possession and creating numerous opportunities.

The home side started brightly and looked the more likely scorers early on, but were unable to make their pressure count.

Slazengers took the lead after capitalising on a loose pass in Halifax's defensive third and carried a 1-0 advantage into the break.

Halifax dominated much of the second half and repeatedly threatened from penalty corners, with Michael Jones seeing several efforts saved. Open-play chances also came and went as the hosts struggled to find the clinical finish needed to get back into the contest.

Despite pushing hard until the final whistle, Halifax were unable to find an equaliser and were left reflecting on a match where their performance arguably deserved more.

Youngster Ethan Geal once again impressed with his work rate and commitment throughout the contest.

Men’s 2nd XI Hit Ten to Return to the Top

Halifax Men's 2nd XI produced one of the club's most emphatic results in recent years with a stunning 10-0 victory over Ben Rhydding 5s.

After a competitive opening period, Bryn Hans opened the scoring before Halifax found their rhythm.

Cam Kew was in irresistible form, scoring four times and playing a major role in several other goals. John Horsley, Sam Spencer, Herbie Robinson and summer signing Nicky Elson also got themselves on the scoresheet, while Pete Balmforth played a key role in several attacking moves.

Halifax carried a 5-0 lead into the interval and showed no signs of easing off in the second half as they continued to carve open the visitors' defence.

Alongside the goalscorers, there were standout performances from debutant Toby Egan-Brook, Graham Rogers at the heart of the defence and goalkeeper Chris James, who preserved the clean sheet whenever called upon.

Kew's four-goal haul earned him Player of the Match, although he may have finished with even more had some ambitious efforts not drifted just off target.

The result sees Halifax return to the top of the table and provides the perfect response to last week's narrow defeat.

Ladies’ 2nd XI Unbeaten Run Ends

Halifax Ladies' 2nd XI were beaten 4-1 by Leeds University 2s in an entertaining contest at Park Lane.

Facing a youthful and well-organised university side, Halifax took time to adapt to a new formation but remained competitive throughout. Strong defensive work from Steph Hoyle and Rose Rooke helped keep the visitors at bay during the opening stages, while goalkeeper Keira Hayman provided excellent communication from the back.

Leeds eventually made their pressure count and built a two-goal advantage before half-time.

Halifax responded positively after the break and reduced the deficit through a superb strike from Helen Boughton following a penalty corner.

Despite renewed energy and determination, Halifax were unable to complete the comeback as Leeds added further goals to secure the victory.

While the result brought Halifax's unbeaten start to an end, there were encouraging performances throughout the side and Player of the Match votes were spread widely across the squad.

Men’s 3rd XI Awarded Walkover Victory

The Men's 3rd XI were awarded a 5-0 walkover victory after Ben Rhydding 6s were unable to field a team.

While the circumstances were disappointing, the result ensures Halifax continue to build momentum in the early stages of the season ahead of a return to action next weekend.

Ladies’ 3rd XI Face Tough Opposition

The Ladies' 3rd XI suffered a 5-0 defeat at home to a strong Aire Valley 2s side.

Despite the scoreline, Halifax continued to compete hard against experienced opposition and will take valuable lessons from the encounter as they look ahead to the coming weeks.

Round-Up

Across the club, Halifax recorded three wins, one walkover victory and two defeats. The Ladies' 1st XI remain unbeaten after four matches, while the Men's 2nd XI returned to the top of their division in spectacular fashion with a ten-goal performance.

From established first-team players to emerging youngsters making their mark across the senior sides, Halifax Hockey Club continues to demonstrate the depth, ambition and team spirit that make it one of the region's thriving hockey clubs.
