The final U12 Girls' tournament took place, with the Halifax team guaranteed a finish in the top division - their highest ever

Newly promoted Halifax Under 12 girls came up against the top 5 teams in Yorkshire this week and whilst this was a tough day on the pitch it was a fantastic experience for all the youngsters.

First off they played Wakefield A and whilst Sophie Hall, Annabel Shaw, Ravneet Panesar and Amelia Bizley worked extremely hard to retain the ball in midfield they suffered a 2-0 loss to the eventual runners up.

Their second game was against the very dominant Sheffield A and the pressure proved too much for all the girls. Whilst keeper Georgia King and defenders Amelie Horner, Molly Hill and Ciara Brennan did their utmost, Sheffield pushed high and always found a man over to put the ball away and the team lost 4-0 to the eventual league winners.

The third game was against Thirsk A and once again the opposition proved too strong and the girls experienced yet another defeat of 3-0.

The fourth game against York A was end to end and despite good pressure from Olivia Sylge and Kimberley Gaukroger up front no goals came for the Halifax girls and unfortunately York got a quick break and scored despite several excellent saves from King to take the spoils 1-0.

The last game against Hull A was end to end as the girls gained in confidence but an unlucky bouncing shot deceived the advancing keeper and once again the girls lost 1-0.

Despite the final results the girls have finished the season in 6th place out of 42 teams having shown fantastic grit and determination throughout the season which is a brilliant achievement.
