Latest Boys U14 Tournament was held in Barnsley on Sunday 15th November

A Jakob Morley hat trick was the highlight of a good 4-2 win against Wakefield. With Bradford unable to field a team the 3 way tournament turned into a single game but both sets of lads produced some good performances.

Alex Gloag had an outstanding game in the heart of the Halifax defence with his tackling being strong and his distribution much more intelligent.

He was able to get Jack Thomson moving down the right hand side and with Joe Costello and Morley in fine form, the Wakefield defence was being tested.

Morley made it 1-0 after a scramble in the Wakefield D. Wakefield equalised with a soft goal that annoyed keeper Harrison Thomis who made up for it with a good performance from there on in.

Morley gave Halifax the lead with a fantastic strike form a narrow angle into the far corner only to see Wakefield equalise a few minutes later. Sam Bizley came very close to giving Halifax the lead but good work from both Tom Batchelor and Costello allowed Tom Crowther to tap into the net to make it 3-2 just before half time.

The game was finely balanced and Alex Walker was needed to help Gloag and Thomson repel several Wakefield attacks and keeper Thomis made a couple of good saves.

Halifax sealed the win with Noah Thomis setting Morley away down the right wing, he cut inside to beat 2 defenders and was glad to see his shot take a deflection before falling into the back of the Wakefield net.

The team were good going forward but need to get their basic defending skills more solid in the next set of games as they are likely to go up a league and will be up against teams who will hurt them if they give them too much space.
