Halifax Girls U12 Match Report 11th October 2015

With the majority of last years team moving up into the next age bracket it promised to be a very challenging day for the younger players stepping up.

The first game was against an extremely strong Doncaster side and whilst the girls were finding there feet Doncaster A applied huge amounts of pressure to win the game 4-0.

The second game against Ben Rhydding A was quite daunting but as the team settled and confidence grew the midfield of Sophie Hall, Amelia Bizley and Annabelle Shaw fought hard to retain possession and following an excellent pass by Bizley, Kimberley Gaukroger struck a superb ball into the Rhydding backboard. Despite excellent defending from new player Ciara Brennan sweeper Amelie Horner and keeper Georgia King, Rhydding stole a late equaliser ending the game in a one all draw.

The third game against Wakefield B saw a very attacking formation push Wakefield back into their half for most of the game. Following a strong run down the wing, Shaw sent a strong ball into the D which was struck hard and firm at the goal by Horner only for the keeper to deflect the ball away but only into the path of the advancing Gaukroger who put the ball into the net to take the spoils 1-0.

The girls took the lead in the fourth game against Northallerton through a goal from Sophie Hall after a melee in the D. Halifax's confidence grew and the girls pushed up but Northallerton took advantage of the space and a couple of long balls up to their high forward saw the opposition steal a couple of goals to win the game 2-1.

The final game against Thirsk was an end to end battle with both keepers making good saves and all players battling hard throughout. A nil - nil draw finished the day.

Halifax U12 Girls can be very proud of their achievements having stepped up to Division 2 standard and holding their own against strong opposition.
