Report from latest U14 Girls Yorkshire league matches played at Darton College near Barnsley

GAME 1 :

Halifax 2-0 Sheffield:

Halifax dominated their opening game and scored from an early penalty corner superbly put away by Regan Midgley. Strong running down the wing from Niamh Brennan and a early ball into the Sheffield defence saw Phoebe Tomlinson control the ball well and increase Halifax lead. The few counter attacks that Sheffield did have were dealt with well by Maria Lomas, Annie Denton and Jodie staples in Midfield, supported well when needed by the Halifax Defence of Annabel Meredith, Emma Stott and Leah Kalter. Halifax goalkeeper was rarely needed.

GAME 2 :

Halifax 0-1 Huddersfield:

A superb game of hockey from both sides saw Halifax concede early on from a superbly Huddersfield solo run. Halifax could have conceded more if not for the great keeping from Anna Nevison and good defensive play of Midgley, Meredith,Stott and Kalter. Halifax counter attacked on both wings and were able to get a penalty corner which was well delivered by Kalter and struck fiercely by Midgley only for the shot to hit the post and go wide.

GAME 3 :

Halifax 0-0 York:

Again Halifax dominated play in midfield from Lomas & Georgia Oldfield on the right and Staples & Brennan on the left. Midgley tested the York defence constantly but was closed out. Halifax had a number of penalty corner but were unable to turn any of these into goals.

A good team performance and results which ensured the team stay in this division for the next set of matches
