Round up of the men's section from this weekend's fixtures

M4

Men's 4 have struggled for a few weeks without a win but the decision to leave the skipper on the bench proved a master stroke.

While the wind was strong and blowing the nets over about 30 minutes before the game the decision was made to attempt playing it. Halifax took full advantage of this, coming out 6-3 winners against Wakefield 7.

A game of two halves, with the first half wind at our backs and pressing forward. The young players Ethan Cockcroft, Euan Hancock, Charlie Richardson and MoM Archie were controlling the ball in the middle of the field. Goals came from Mike Brennan, Ryan Beeforth, Graham Hill and Pete Dobson.

The second half started with the opposition coming back into the game despite some good saves from the GK Dominic Taylor. The ship was steadied with another goal for Graham Hill and on the final whistle defence kept out the short corner.
Overall the positional play and movement of the ball is what gave a good win.

M2

The 2nd team delivered an excellent performance to beat a decent Acomb 1st X1.

The young team struggled initially but once they found their confidence, they looked a good balanced side. The pace of Jamie Hereford, Luke Pearson and Ryan Dransfield caused massive problems for the Acomb defence throughout the game.

Peter Balmforth, Simon Arch and Peter Stobard were getting more possession to feed the forwards and 2 good goals resulted from this. Luke Pearson and Jamie Hereford the scorers.

The team gave away a couple of weak goals but Peter Balmforth saw his mishit shot squeeze past the Acomb keeper to win the game 3-2.

M1

The 1st team lost 3-2 to Sheffield University bankers with the Sheffield winner coming in the last seconds. It was a cruel defeat after a solid performance.

Starting slowly, they found themselves 2-0 at halftime as the front 6 of Bankers were casing problems with their high press.

Resetting themselves at halftime and a tweak to the tactics gave instant results as a sweeping move the length of the pitch from the restart resulted in a penalty corner that Michael Jones converted. A second soon followed as John Horsley reacted quickest to his own shot to bring the scores level at 2-2.

The game looked to have run its course and the draw a fair result, but one last attack and crash ball across the D from Sheffield saw them bundle the ball home at the back post and steal the points in the dying seconds.

M3

The M3 game was called off due to safety reasons due to the strong winds
