Our U12, U14 & U16 girls were all in action this weekend, kicking off 2022 with some great performances

After most of the games on Saturday were cancelled due to the severe frost, milder overnight temperatures allowed 4 junior teams to play on Sunday 16th

U12s

Our 2 U12 girls teams performed well with Team2 unlucky with some of their results after dominating most of their 5 games.

They lost 2-0 and 1-0 against Leeds and Ben Rhydding, drew 1-1 and 2-2 against Leeds Adel and Aire Valley and saving the best till last, a win 2-0 against Ben Rhydding 4 really finishing off a good morning.

Goals were scored by Rea Vaquari(2), Isabella Walker(2) and Isla Flesher Smith.

Orla Bentley Elliot is starting to shine as a really skilful keeper and both Rose Rooke and Livtara Gill defend strongly. We welcomes a new player, Molly Thomson who fitted in well and Darcy Francis is developing into a good midfield player.

Well done girls. Picture below

Team 1 also played 5 games and had an excellent morning losing only 1 to a strong Hull team 2-0. Draws against Ben Rhydding (0-0) and York City (1-1) were followed up with wins against Thirsk (2-1) and Selby (2-1).

Goals were scored by Lucy Hampshire(2), Edie Jones(2) and Connie Wood(1).

Ava Greenwood had a solid game in goal and is gaining in confidence game by game. Martha Dawson, Scarlett Dodds and Darcy Hancock were strong in defensive situations and their ball distribution was solid across all the games. Martha Mackrill was constantly causing problems for the opposition in the right wing slot running with the ball into dangerous areas and crossing the ball with more strength.

U14s

The U14 girls team put in a powerful performance to comfortably beat Huddersfield. 7-2.

Abigail Turner, Liv Morton, Jess Sanderson and Izzy Vickers were very strong in defence and restricted the Huddersfield attack to very few chances. They protected keeper Evie Brennan in the Halifax goal who only had a few saves to make.

The midfield of Ava Eastwood, Eva Brady, Phoebe Myford and Evie Shaw dominated possession and provided good ball to the attacking threat of Lizzy Gillgrass , Liberty Earle, Evelyn Rooke and Maisie Francis.

Evie Shaw was in top goalscoring form with 5 goals, Lizzy Gillgrass and Ava Eastwood scored 1 apiece.

U16s

The girls U16 team showed a lot of character in their defeat to a strong Wakefield team. The final score was 3-1 but Halifax finished strongly, getting the better of the last 15 minutes with Alice Bridge scoring their goal.

Ruby Whitworth and Iselin Powell were strong in defence throughout the game with good support from Edith Davies, Cara Davies, Imogen Noot, Dinara Gill and Olive le Fevre.

Pip Mcdonald and Alice Bridge showed good skills to deny the Wakefield midfield too much possession and were able to provide good attacking passes to Lily-Mae Clooney, Maisey Tomlinson and Zara Sturdee who caused the Wakefield defence lots of problems.

Well done team and particularly Billie Elwin in goal for some excellent saves and kicked clearances
