Halifax Ladies V 2-1 Huddersfield Dragons III
The first half saw Halifax lose their vice captain Natalie Hellowell after five minutes, victim of a pulled a thigh muscle. This was hardly an ideal start for a team who were already without Captain Katie Smith, one of two players who were side-lined after breaking bones in last weeks match!
The inexperienced team had to reshuffle and Huddersfield enjoyed the best of the first half. Alice Buckle, Tracy Sykes, Sasha Penny-Ward and keeper Georgia King were standing strong in defense but after two short corners Halifax succumbed to Huddersfield's first and only goal.
After a pep talk at half-time Halifax came out for the second half with intent. Sheridan Highley ran the ball forward from the restart, and with some neat interplay between Highley, Ciara Brennan and Holly Powell, Highley scored.
A much improved Halifax team started to produce accurate and fast passes in midfield from Alana Hampshire, Connie Attwood, Mia Ghosh and Laura Armstrong.
A strong Ghosh run from right midfield released Brennan to use her pace to get to the backline, pulling a cross back to Holly Powell for a devastating finish into the top of the net. A fantastic goal to seal a victory and win Powell the player of the match award!
