Louth 0-1 Halifax III
Halifax had to make one of the longest journeys in the Yorkshire league last weekend with a trip to Louth and were determined to make sure that they got something from the game. The playing conditions made the game difficult from the start with heavy rain and hail battering down on the pitch. Louth had the majority of chances in the first half, causing goalkeeper, Leah O'Connell, to make some brilliant saves. Defenders Alison McManus, Jess Stott, Sharon Crawshaw and Steph Hoyle all made goal saving tackles to ensure Halifax made it to half time with a clean sheet.
The second half saw Halifax become the more dominant side. Zoe Ribchester, Margaret Bottomley and Anya Wasilewski created Halifax opportunities going forward and Emma Clarkson, Annie Denton and third team debutant Helen Williams, all came close to scoring. Ten minutes into the half, Halifax were awarded a penalty corner, which Bottomley fired into the goal to put the away side ahead. Louth pushed hard trying to get an equaliser but were thwarted by a stoic Halifax defence. These three points see Halifax move upto 8th in Yorkshire Division 3.
