Halifax started in determined fashion and despite Bankers enjoying the lions share of possession they created very few clear cut chances. Ruth Bury and ‘Player of the Day’ Anya Wasilewski broke up play well and did their best to set up some forward momentum, but with a tight ring and the high Bankers work rate Halifax forwards had little time to settle on the ball.
Jai Edge, promoted to play in goals for Halifax 3’s stuck to her task well and made numerous saves including some notable ones in the air. However when a defensive mix up 25 yards out from goal left the keeper exposed there was little she could do and Bankers broke the deadlock.
The start of the second half saw a rejuvenated Halifax team enjoy their best period of the game with Adele Daly at the heart of much of the attacking play. Chances to equalise came and went before Bankers regained the ascendency. Sharon Crawshaw had an outstanding game in defence, clearing two shots off the goal line following Bankers penalty corners. Despite Halifax’s resilience the outcome was sealed when the defence failed to pick up a Bankers player inside the goal circle who gained possession and finished in style.
