5 wins in a row for Ladies 3s with a 4-1 win over Adel

Halifax III’s kept their unbeaten run going with a fifth successive win in this Yorkshire League Division 4 tie.

Leeds Adel started brightly with some reorganisation necessary in the Halifax side with few midfielders or attackers available.

The defence was well marshalled at this point by Jess Stott and Alison McManus and Adel were kept at bay.

As soon as Halifax found their feet they enjoyed a lot of possession with Regan Midgley, Cara James and Sharon Crawshaw providing a solid foundation to push forward from. Further forward Courtenay Fisher and Gypsy Goldthorpe spread the ball well and when the ball was passed to Robyn Fawkes just inside the attacking half it left the youngster to show just much much potential she has, outpacing the defence and beating the last player before hitting a bullet of a shot into the corner of the goal.

Halifax then dominated the remainder of the second half, Margaret Bottomley sweeping the ball ball in from close range after good build up play and a cross by Nicola Boulton. Bottomley then added another after good advantage by the umpire, the ball breaking nicely after an Adel foul for an undercut shot which the Adel keeper could only parry into her net.

Before half time player of the day Fawkes scored her second and Halifax’s fourth with another firmly hit shot which left the keeper little chance.

After such a convincing first half display Halifax struggled to find the same intensity and quickness of passing and the game was largely played out in the middle of the field. In front of goal play was not incisive and Halifax failed to add to their tally.

Just before the end after sloppy defensive play Adel gained a consolation. The result sees Halifax move up to fourth place, still some points behind the top two teams.
