Ladies 3s grabbed a well earned 2-2 draw away at Brigg

Brigg II 2-2 Halifax Ladies III

Halifax started the game on top form and were a goal up inside five minutes. An Alison McManus long pass out of defence found Regan Midgley in midfield who quickly released the ball forward to Margaret Bottomley to cut in, beat her marker and fire home with her second touch from the top of the circle. Halifax dominated for much of the first half with Midgley, Nicola Boulton and April Hendy retaining the ball well but Brigg gradually got a foot hold in the game as Halifax missed some opportunities to add to their lead. Brigg equalised before half time after a short corner broke down and they were able to press home the advantage in numbers in the cirle.

The second half started much as the first with Halifax in the ascendency but they failed to convert from attacking short corners and Brigg needed little encouragement to mount pressure of their own. Claire Donson proved to be an excellent replacement in goal for Halifax’s regular keeper, covering her angles well and repelling all shots from open play. Brigg took the lead midway through the second half when Donson and the defence were beaten by a well placed shot just inside the left post.

Halifax had not finished though and showed great resilience as a team. With a battling performance by Robyn Fawkes and Naimh Brennan adding to the harrying of Beth Smith and Vicki Ferdinando Halifax made a resurgence and when Fawkes picked out Molly Midgley with a great pass to the back post, the elder Midgley sister finished with aplomb high into the Brigg net to claim a point.
