Halifax III 3-2 Sheffield Uni Bankers III
After losing to Sheffield Uni Bankers two weeks ago in the league, Halifax knew what to expect in their 1st cup game in the Yvonne Horner Shield competition.
They pressed hard from the start, with forwards Harriet Wood, Annie Denton, Emma Clarkson and Vicki Ferdinando all having opportunities to score within the first few minutes of the game.
Sheffield were quick on the counter attack but the defence managed to deny any scoring opportunities for the away side. Just before half time Ferdinando converted Halifax's first goal to go into the halftime break in the lead.
Sheffield manage to get an early goal back in the second half, but with some darting runs down the wing, Adele Muff was causing havoc for the away side's defence. Muff managed to hit the ball into the 'D' and Denton was able to put the ball in the net.
A quick equaliser was then scored by Sheffield from a penalty corner, but the home side were determined to get their first win of the season.
Two minutes before the end of the game, another ball was fired into the 'D' and Wood sealed with a win with Halifax's third goal of the game.
Halifax will now play Horsforth in the next round.
