Halifax travelled away to Horsforth to play their first game in this year’s Yvonne Horner Cup competition and came away with a comfortable 5-1 win

Halifax started off dominantly, creating many chances and were soon rewarded with goal when Vicki Ferdinando’s cross found Sara Woodhead who finished with style passed the keeper

Halifax continued to increase the pressure on Horforth and after some fine play by Robyn Fawkes she released Woodhead who beat the keeper at the second attempt.

Halifax’s solid defence managed to deflect a strong attempt on goal soon after, with Gypsy Goldthorpe clearing the ball to Beth Smith which opened the field up for another Halifax attack.

Fawkes carried the ball up the left wing before an accurate pass set Woodhead up for her hat trick, finishing with aplomb with just the keeper to beat.

The second half saw Horsforth becoming disheartened as Halifax continued to press home their advantage.

The impressive and ever dangerous Woodhead was spearheading the attack and turned provider for the 4th goal as she returned the favour of the first half, crossing the ball across goal for Fawkes to score after a short corner.

Fawkes added her second following a deflection off a defender at another short corner.

Halifax then had a lapse in concentration, allowing Horsforth to score after some sloppy defending.

Just before the end of the match Nicola Boulton narrowly failed to add a sixth goal for Halifax but the Halifax team went away happy with a comprehensive win against opponents from a higher division.
