Halifax arrived at Park Lane expecting a tough game on Saturday as top of the table Wakefield were the visitors. Halifax expected Wakefield would have a strong team for this game, and were unlucky to lose 2-1 in a

First Half

The game started well with both teams creating chances to take the lead but a combination of good goalkeeping from Steve “Sparky” Sparkes kept Wakefield at bay. Early on Captain Neil Penny-Ward was warned about asking for decisions by the Wakefield umpire, when apparent Wakefield were appealing much more!!

Harry greenwood making his last appearance before moving up a team was using every inch of the pitch to beat players, even being accused of using more than the pitch by Wakefiled who were clearly jealous of there opponents skills.

Despite every effort Halifax conceded a dubious short corner which was duly buried into the net by the Wakefield team, appeals went up from Halifax the ball hadn’t left the D and after a conflab by umpires it was ruled out. As a result Jack Willis went the full lengthy of the pitch and narrowly missed. Was he finally going to score for Halifax!!!! Not this time

Sloppy defending and being dragged to the ball allowed Wakefield to score making the game 1-0. Come on lads we need to up this was the call from the side-lines.

Halifax broke immediately from the restart and the ball fell to Lee “Chappers” Chapman who after one of his mazy runs crossed the ball into Wakefield’s box, who was there to slap home a goal but Jack Willis. First goal in 2 years I guess Jack well done. He could hardly miss.

As the half drew to a close Halifax continued to push and just before half time Wakefield were let in for a simple goal.

Half Time score was 1-2.

During the break general consensus was that Halifax were making Wakefield work hard and they were getting frustrated and starting to get a little nasty. Little did we know what was to happen in the second half.

The half began well both teams began well making chances but it was clear Halifax were on top.

Tempers began to fray as both teams started to make rash, mis-timed tackles. Culminating in a scuffle breaking out between a Wakefield player and Andrew Turner. It was off the ball and no one had seen what had happened, both players were Red carded.

The game seemed to settle and Halifax were building the pressure, Jack Willis hit the post from a reverse stick shot, Lee chapman passed when through on goal and Halifax were surely going to nick a draw.

The game petered out and ended in another loss despite the good work from all players apart from Andrew Turner for the Red Card.

Final Score 1-2 loss enjoy the third team Harry and to all have a good Christmas break and a Happy New Year.
