Jack Willis stole the show with a hat-trick as the Mens 4s ran out 5-1 winners at home to Boston

Halifax 4s (5) - Boston Spa (1)

Team: Owen Waite, Andy Turner, Gordon Hines, Trevor Love, Sean Cunningham, Neil Penny-Ward, Paul Crowther, Michael Broadbent, George English-Burns, Elliott Bullick, Phil Green, Lee Chapman, Roy Atkinson, Jack Willis

After the snow had cleared at Park Lane on Saturday a strong Halifax took on lowly Boston to cement a place in the top half of division 5 north. Halifax had been unfortunate to fall foul to the weather the week before so a refreshed set of legs were raring to go.

From the off a siege mentality led to Halifax having a number of chances but couldn't quite make one count.

The break came from a quick counter down the right hand side which led to a short corner. Andy Turner strolled up from the back and the drag flick arrowed towards the bottom corner of the net beating the keeper but was kicked off the line, play on was the call and Lee Chapman neatly tucked the ball in from the rebound.

A second came not long after as Jack Willis was hacked to bits outside the area ghosted in and shot into the bottom corner of the net from the top of the D. The half continued to go well for halifax, Trevor Love commanding at the back and a particular highlight of Sean Cunningham's, turn from right back to leave two Boston players in awe of the youngsters talent.

Boston did have a chance to score as the half drew to a close but Owen Waite pushed Andy Turner onto the attacker who ended up under Turner in agony. Andy Turner also felt the force of the push took a breather and Michael Broadbent (not renowned for tackling) fell into the holding role in midfield, he was outstanding in this role and stayed here for the rest of the game.

As the half drew to a close a short corner to Boston led to Neil Penny-Ward conceding a penalty flick for kicking the ball on the line. The flick was taken, but Owen Waite with his cat like moves saved the flick, no one could believe it.

Halftime came and it was 2-0 halifax were comfortable but Boston were building into the game.

What happened next has to be the most bizarre team talk by Gordon Hines, all i will say is "Tortoise" ... most players looked confused Lee chapman was only interested in lettuce!!!

The second half started very much as the first had finished an even game as the team from Boston became stronger. This was short lived as Elliott Bullick and George English-Burns showed a touch of class to dip and dive in and out of tackles to set up a chance for Roy Atkinson who buried the ball half way up the net.

The game at 3-0 was over as a contest it was now a case of showing determination to not conceed and keep a clean sheet.

Jack Willis, scored a second he was on a hat trick but we all know jack has the worst ability in front of goal he is more likely to hit the corner then the back of the net.

At 4-0 fax were cruising the skill of the youngsters was shinning through even a kick out down the wig from Michael Broadbent went unpunished, lady luck was certainly on him. Halifax did conceded a sloppy goal when switched off and Owen Waite was beaten 4-1.

As the game drew to a close Jack Willis picked up the ball on the edge of the area and shot, no one knows wether it was on target probably not it looked like it would hit the corner flag but a wicked deflection took it past the keeper and it was 5-1, the game ended and Halifax were very happy, promotion is a real possibility and we will continue to fight for the second promotion spot in our league.

I did forget to mention that we have to give a massive thanks to Nigel Bowers and Dave Blundell who umpired the game despite his grumpy mood and determination to insult most of the Boston players for complaining on the pitch.
