It was a disappointing result after the team were pretty comfortable at 1-0 up until the last 10 minutes when tired legs allowed the lively Huddersfield attack to score 2 late goals.
Veterans, Rob Keane, Paul Graham and Gordon Hines used their experience early on to stiffle the Huddersfield threat and with the new young players (Sean Fitzpatrick, George English-Burns and Michael Broadbent) gaining confidence it looked like the team would start the season with a win.
It should have been 2 or 3 nil with Phil Green, Roy Atkinson and Gordon Hines missing good chances. Atkinson did score with a solid strike from a penalty corner but a slim 1-0 lead always gives the opposition hope.
Paul Crowther and Mick Brennan and Aiden Crowe worked hard in midfield and but as they run out of steam Huddersfield were able to get more possession in the last 10 minutes and despite the efforts of Andy Turner, Huddersfield stole the 3 points.
