The Halifax mens 3rd XI tavelled to Thirsk on Saturday with a weakened team and were really up against it when midfielded Cameron Hellowell was delayed.
Starting with 10 men they found themselves under pressure and new centre back duo of Paul Mayes and Nick Walton struggled to get control.
The young Thirsk side were finding too much room and scored after 5 minutes.
They continued to press and Paul Graham illegally saved a shot on the goal with a foot with Thirsk scoring from the resultant penalty.
The game changed when Hellowell arrived as the team were able to get more possession. Simon Meredith, Michael Broadbent and Hellowell were able to get forward and the pressure told with Dave Collins flicking the ball over the advancing keeper for Roy Atkinson to push it home. 2-1 at half time.
The team showed some good fighting spirit in the second half and Sean Colclough was able to get forward from right back to help the attack.
Atkinson got a second from a goalmouth scramble only for some soft defending allowing Thirsk to go into a 3-2 lead. Graham was pushing forward and he provided good ball for Collins who struck home an equaliser then was able to feed Harry Greenwood to slide the ball in on the far post for a hard earned 3 points.
The last game of the season sees the 3rd XI play their own 4th XI.
The 4th XI won on Saturday to get out of relegation trouble. A win for the 3rd XI would see them finish 3rd in the league so a good season.
