A 2-0 away defeat to York saw the final glimmer of promotion hopes disappear for the Men's 3s

Men's 3rd X1 lost to an excellent York team in York 2-0 to finally extinguish any hope of promotion from Yorkshire 5 North.

York outpassed the Halifax team and deserved their win but Halifax did have their chances with top scorer Dave Collins being denied on 4 or 5 occasions by an excellent York keeper.

Halifax kept the score goalless at half time with Jamie Maddock very strong at the heart of the defence. Paul Graham was well below his best and the other midfield players Michael Broadbent, Cameron Hellowell and Jack Willis struggled to get any fluency.

Harry Greenwood had to go off after a nasty head injury and with only 10 players, the task got harder playing 1 short.

York got into a 1-0 lead from a penalty corner and despite some good defensive work by Paul Mayes and Nick Walton, York got a second.

Halifax did not give up and made York work hard to keep their lead but the York keeper was very secure to ensure they kept their 2-0 advantage.
