Halifax Mens 3rd X1 long unbeaten run came to an end at the frozen pitch against Mirfield 1st X1.
On a surface that was not really fit for hockey, the Halifax lads suffered badly in the 1st half with their passing game very difficult to execute. Mirfield's long game was the only way to play and the team went in at half time 2-0 down.
With the pitch thawing the visitors were hopeful for an improved performance and with veteran Paul Graham pushed into midfield this new tactic seemed to be working with Graham releasing Cameron Hellowell, Jack Willis and Michael Broadbent into more forward positions. several chances were created and Elliot Bullick and Dave Collins were denied by some excellent keeping from the Mirfield stopper. John Kalter in the Halifax goal was rarely troubled as Jamie Maddock, Nick Walton and Sean Fitzpatrick controlled the defence with few problems.
Willis got a deserved goal firing in from close range after good work from Bullick and Lee Chapman.
Halifax continued to create chances but a deserved equaliser just would not happen and a 2-1 defeat was the result leaving Mirfield 2nd and Halifax 4th in the promotion chase but Halifax have 2 games in hand so still have a chance.
